The Nohara family embarks on a journey to Akita Prefecture after Hiroshi receives a job assignment near his hometown. They rent a traditional farmhouse in a peaceful village close to Hiroshi’s parents. Embracing the tranquil countryside lifestyle, they enjoy simple pleasures, such as gathering around the sunken hearth each evening to savor local Akita dishes. Shinnosuke, with the guidance of his grandfather Ginnosuke, learns the joys of country play, including catching bugs and fishing, while also making friends with local farmers.
One day, Shinnosuke’s adventure takes an unexpected turn when he spots his pet dog, Shiro, covered in soot. Following Shiro’s hasty departure, Shinnosuke unwittingly boards a mysterious train that leads him to Coal Town, a vibrant place seemingly untouched by time from the Showa era. Here, he encounters hardworking townsfolk and meets a mysterious young girl. This marks the beginning of an exciting new adventure for Shinnosuke as he explores the charm and energy of Coal Town while making new friends and navigating the wonders of this unique environment.
