The University of Iowa plans to close its American Studies and Gender, Women’s, and Sexuality Studies departments, merging them into a new School of Social and Cultural Analysis that will include other disciplines like African American and Latina/o/x Studies. This decision, motivated by low enrollment of under 60 students, aims to enhance curriculum coordination and facilitate interdisciplinary research. Affected students will transition to a Bachelor of Arts in Social and Cultural Analysis, equipping them with essential skills for future careers or advanced studies. The proposal is pending review by the Board of Regents in February.

1. Dishonest and desperate headline 2. What people have to understand is that most students who get a gender studies degree or anything like that usually have it as part of a double major or have it as a minor. Very very few students have it as their sole major.
