Stellantis Italy Sees 37% Drop in 2024 Output as Car Production Reaches 68-Year Low

In 2023, Stellantis NV’s vehicle production in Italy dropped by 37%, with car manufacturing plummeting 46% to its lowest level since 1956, totaling 475,090 vehicles. The decline is attributed to weak demand, especially for electric vehicles, and tough competition. To manage overcapacity, Stellantis has utilized state-funded temporary layoffs. The company plans to boost production starting in 2026 with new models and has pledged €2 billion for investments in 2025. The FIM-CISL union expressed concern about the Maserati plant, which saw a 79% decline, and plans to protest EU carbon emission targets impacting the auto industry.
