Nvidia Launches RTX 50-Series Blackwell Gaming Chips for PCs

During a keynote at CES, Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, announced the release of the GeForce RTX 50-series chips, based on the Blackwell architecture previously used in AI processors for data centers. These new chips, designed for desktop and laptop PCs, will retail between $550 and $2,000, with laptop models expected to ship in March. Although Nvidia’s historic focus was on gaming GPUs, the company has pivoted significantly towards AI, with data center chip sales now accounting for 88% of total revenue. The RTX 50-series will feature DLSS 4, a cutting-edge AI technology that enhances gaming performance and graphics quality.

Despite the dominant position in the AI GPU market, Nvidia’s recent gaming sales increased only 15% year-on-year. Nonetheless, the new RTX 50-series will integrate AI capabilities that could include generative AI for game character development. The flagship model, the RTX 5090, will be priced at $1,999 and reportedly offers double the performance of its predecessor. Nvidia emphasizes that advancements in its AI sector will benefit its gaming products, demonstrating the convergence of AI and gaming technologies moving forward.
