France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot emphasized the European Union’s stance against any forms of territorial aggression following President-elect Donald Trump’s comments about U.S. control over Greenland. In a radio interview with France Inter, Barrot stated that the EU, comprised of 27 member nations, would not tolerate attempts to infringe upon its borders. He highlighted that Greenland, while an autonomous territory of Denmark, is associated with the EU as an Overseas Country and Territory (OCT). Barrot firmly asserted, “There is no question that the European Union would let another nation of the world, whoever it may — and I would even say, starting with Russia — to attack its sovereign borders.” He underscored the need for the EU to strengthen its unity and resolve in the face of such threats, reiterating that the bloc would defend its territorial integrity vigorously. The comments reflect heightened tensions around territorial claims and assert the EU’s commitment to collective security amid geopolitical challenges. This situation underscores the importance of diplomatic relations and territorial respect among nations, especially regarding areas like Greenland that hold strategic significance.
