A group of LGBTQ veterans has reached a settlement with the Department of Defense concerning discharges under the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy and its earlier iterations. Awaiting federal court approval, the agreement aims to simplify the removal of sexual orientation references from discharge documents, facilitating easier access to benefits and corrections of military records for veterans. The lawsuit, initiated by five veterans representing over 30,000 individuals, contended that these discharges were unconstitutional, infringing on privacy rights. U.S. Magistrate Judge Joseph C. Spero noted that the military’s actions were motivated by discriminatory intent. Lilly Steffanides, a Navy veteran and plaintiff, emphasized that the settlement is about restoring the honor and pride that LGBTQ+ veterans deserve but were denied. Discharges often included sexual orientation documentation, which prevented veterans from accessing benefits such as tuition assistance and VA loans. Recently, the Pentagon and President Biden have made efforts to address these injustices, including issuing honorable discharges to affected veterans and pardoning service members convicted of consensual gay relationships under outdated bans.

Guys. The rifle doesn’t care about the pronouns of the person pulling the trigger. Anyone willing to fight and die for their country is a hero. Their gender or sexual Identities play no role in this.

That should have been done a while ago. I still think a DADT policy is needed. The military is not about the individual but about the unit. No one should care who you love and how you love as long as it’s within the confines of the law, but social individuality breaks the cohesion of the military. Idc if you are in a motor cycle club, gay, straight or love tree’s. You shed your individuality once you raise your right hand. When you get out be whom ever you have always wished to be.

Meanwhile republicans want to get rid of them, which would even further weaken our military.
