The final distribution from the Madoff Victim Fund began this week, releasing over $131 million to more than 23,000 victims of Bernard Madoff’s Ponzi scheme. Over 16 years, the fund has distributed more than $4.3 billion to around 40,000 victims globally, recovering nearly 94% of the estimated total losses from the fraud. Madoff, who was sentenced to 150 years in prison for his crimes, passed away in 2021. Major contributions to the fund came from the estate of investor Jeffry Picower and JPMorgan Chase, following settlements related to Madoff’s deceptive investment practices.
