adminA new Florida law, effective Wednesday, prohibits children under 14 from using social media. Signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis, HB3 mandates parental permission for 14- and 15-year-olds on platforms with “addictive features” like infinite scrolling. It also requires age verification on websites with harmful content, restricting access to minors. Critics argue it violates civil rights, though many parents appear supportive, citing concerns about social media’s negative impact on children. A 2023 Gallup poll found children aged 13-14 spend over four hours daily on social media, with significant usage of platforms like YouTube, TikTok, Snapchat, and Instagram.

With all due Respect why are parents allowing young children using phones and social media in the first place. It’s sad that parents don’t know how to say no to their children and now we have a society with mental issues. I see babies over the age of 8 months in prams with ipads!!!! Give them a book for goodness sake ๐

While I agree with this…it is also a slippery slope when it comes to taking away freedoms.

Great idea in theory, but how will they stop kids from going on social media?
