AccuWeather’s estimates indicate that the wildfires in Los Angeles have incurred damage and economic losses exceeding $50 billion, potentially reaching between $52 billion and $57 billion. These fires rank among California’s most destructive, resulting in at least two fatalities and the loss of hundreds of structures. AccuWeather’s Chief Meteorologist, Jonathan Porter, warned that if more structures are damaged, these wildfires could become the worst in modern California history.
J.P. Morgan estimates insured losses could hit $10 billion, primarily impacting homeowners, while CoreLogic reports that over 456,000 homes, with reconstruction costs nearing $300 billion, are at risk in Los Angeles and Riverside. These figures represent general risk rather than losses from the current fires. Compounding the issue, high winds and limited water supplies have hindered firefighting efforts.
Comparatively, the devastation from these wildfires has been noted alongside the 2023 Maui wildfires, which caused damages of $13 billion to $16 billion. Economists warn that if fires encroach upon more populated areas, economic impacts may escalate further. Ongoing efforts to control the fires continue amid the evolving situation.

In the aftermath, follow the money. That is all I have to say.

Good thing there’s a very small class of people with billions in hoarded wealth. I’m sure they’d be altruistic and give support in this time of need

It’s really fascinating how so many of you seem intent on being the most hateful person in the comment section while still claiming to be these morally upstanding humanitarians. My heart goes out to everyone suffering.

Online comment sections are predictably full of overnight experts on forestry and fire containment. It’s the immediate blame game as usual with this country. It could be that Biden, Newsom and the city of LA are incompetent (the latter are) but we have to wait and see. And hope they can keep the current fires and the fires that will pop up due to dry winds to as low as possible.
