Amazon Prime Plans Melania Trump Biopic

Amazon Prime Video announced it has licensed a documentary focusing on Melania Trump, in light of Donald Trump’s election victory over Kamala Harris in November 2024. This news follows a report indicating that Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s founder, plans to donate $1 million to Trump’s inaugural fund, furthering past tensions between him and Trump. The documentary, anticipated for release in late 2025, promises an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Melania Trump’s life as First Lady and is produced by Fernando Sulichin, directed by Brett Ratner, who faced allegations of sexual misconduct in 2017.

The announcement comes amid controversy surrounding The Washington Post, which is owned by Bezos. Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Ann Telnaes resigned after her satirical cartoon, criticizing Bezos and other tech billionaires’ efforts to appease Trump, was suppressed. Telnaes asserted that it was the first time a cartoon she created was killed due to its content. Meanwhile, Bezos has been accused of influencing editorial decisions at the Post, including halting an endorsement for Harris. Following the backlash over these revelations, nearly 300,000 people canceled their digital subscriptions to the Post, representing a significant drop in its digital subscriber base.
