Amazon Workers Stage Strikes at Seven Locations Amid Holiday Shopping Surge

Amazon workers from seven facilities in New York, Georgia, California, and Illinois went on strike on December 19, 2024, organized by the Teamsters union. They demand better benefits, higher wages, and safer working conditions, aiming to pressure Amazon during the busy holiday season. Teamsters President Sean O’Brien criticized Amazon’s lack of response to their bargaining request. In contrast, Amazon claims the strike is supported mostly by non-employees and disputes the union’s representation of its workforce. This strike is noted as the largest against Amazon in U.S. history, reflecting ongoing tensions between the company and unionization efforts that began gaining momentum in 2022.
