Herbert Kickl, Chef der FPÖ, spaltet die österreichische Bevölkerung wie kaum ei…

Herbert Kickl, leader of the FPÖ (Freedom Party of Austria), is a polarizing figure in Austrian politics, exemplifying deep divisions within the electorate. Despite achieving high rankings in hypothetical chancellor polls, his overall trust ratings remain alarmingly low. According to the APA/OGM trust index, only 27% of voters express confidence in him, reflecting the loyalty of his core supporters; conversely, a staggering 69% hold a distrust towards him, resulting in a negative trust balance of -42 points.

When compared to his rivals, Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) and Andreas Babler (SPÖ), Kickl often leads the chancellor question, with support levels varying from 23% to 32%, outpacing Nehammer (17–28%) and Babler (11–26%). Despite widespread skepticism, Kickl manages to project an image of leadership among his backers, suggesting that his path to the chancellorship is both attainable and contentious.

The situation raises questions about the viability of a leader whose confidence primarily stems from a limited voter base. Can success in the role of chancellor be achieved without broad public trust? This prompts a discussion on the implications of relying solely on core support within the political landscape.
