In January 2025, Roborock, a Beijing-based robot vacuum manufacturer, unveiled its latest model, the Saros Z70, featuring an AI-powered folding arm designed to remove obstacles like socks and small towels. Roborock President Quan Gang believes that with the rise of AI, robot vacuums could become as essential as washing machines within the next three years. This model can detect and eliminate objects weighing up to 300 grams and is expected to launch in global markets soon. Despite impressive growth in the U.S. and other regions, overall robot vacuum penetration remains low, under 10% in developed countries, presenting both challenges and growth opportunities.
Roborock’s high-end models, such as the S8 MaxV Ultra and Qrevo S, have received accolades for their advanced features, including hands-free functionality and AI navigation capabilities. The competitive landscape includes other brands, such as Ecovacs and iRobot. Roborock’s shares rose following the new model announcement, and the company reported a 23.2% increase in operating revenue in the first three quarters of 2024. To advance its AI capabilities, Roborock plans to expand its research workforce and has invested 9.1% of its revenue in research and development in recent months.
