Scout Motors, a revived American brand under Volkswagen, has garnered over 50,000 refundable reservation deposits for its upcoming electric Terra pickup truck and Traveler SUV, slated for release in 2027. Volkswagen CEO Oliver Blume highlighted the strong market interest in these models during a recent CES tech conference, describing the enthusiasm as a “love story” reflecting the brand’s heritage from its original run between 1961 and 1980. The vehicles will be available in all-electric and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) versions, the latter combining EV motors with a traditional internal combustion engine for additional range and support. Scout CEO Scott Keogh noted that approximately 70% of deposits are for the Traveler SUV, and both models are expected to start under $60,000 with significant ranges—up to 500 miles for EREVs and 350 miles for all-electric versions. The company is focused on increasing brand recognition, engineering the vehicles, and completing a new $2 billion factory in South Carolina, aiming for an annual production capacity of 200,000 vehicles. VW plans to leverage joint ventures for critical components, including batteries and software, to enhance its U.S. market share, currently at about 4%.
