Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has completed a 3.5-million-square-foot chip fabrication plant in the Arizona desert, marking it as the most advanced of its kind in the U.S. This facility is the first of three planned Arizona fabs, with a combined investment of $65 billion expected by the end of the decade. Apple will be the site’s largest customer, although full production is set to begin in 2025, with pilot production already underway. TSMC chairman Rick Cassidy has expressed optimism about the project’s timeline, indicating that progress is nearly back on schedule.
