The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has filed a complaint against Walmart and Branch Messenger, alleging that they pressured delivery drivers to use poorly managed accounts for payment, resulting in over $10 million in junk fees. The lawsuit claims Walmart and Branch opened accounts without drivers’ consent and misled them about payment access. Drivers reportedly faced threats of termination for refusing to use these accounts. Walmart denied the allegations, claiming the CFPB’s investigation was flawed, while Branch also contested the lawsuit. This action is part of a broader CFPB effort targeting financial mishandling by companies, including several banks.
