White House’s Sullivan Warns Weakened Iran May Seek Nuclear Weapons

U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan expressed concerns over a potentially weakened Iran pursuing nuclear weapons, especially following its diminished regional influence due to Israeli assaults on its allies, including Hamas and Hezbollah. Sullivan highlighted recent Israeli strikes on Iranian facilities that have reduced Tehran’s conventional capabilities. He noted that some voices in Iran may advocate for revisiting their nuclear doctrine. While Iran claims its nuclear program is peaceful, it has increased uranium enrichment since the U.S. withdrawal from the nuclear deal. Sullivan briefed Donald Trump’s incoming team on this “real risk” and consulted with Israel on the matter.
