A recent study published in Environmental Research Letters reveals that global temperatures are expected to rise by 3°C more quickly than previously estimated, with most regions likely surpassing the critical threshold of 1.5°C by 2040. This research, led by climate scientists Elizabeth Barnes, Noah Diffenbaugh, and Sonia Seneviratne, employed AI-enhanced methods to analyze data from 10 climate models, improving the precision of regional warming forecasts. Key findings indicate that 34 regions will likely exceed the 1.5°C threshold by 2040, with 31 reaching 2°C and 26 surpassing 3°C by 2060.
