Greenland’s Prime Minister Múte Egede announced the island’s plan to pursue independence from Denmark, referencing the Self-Government Act as the legal foundation for this path. During a New Year’s address, he emphasized the significance of establishing an international airport, improving access and infrastructure as crucial steps toward greater autonomy. Egede’s announcement coincided with President-elect Donald Trump’s renewed interest in purchasing Greenland, which Egede firmly rejected, affirming, “Greenland is ours. We are not for sale.” He reiterated the importance of maintaining their long struggle for freedom.

Egede also revealed plans for new airports in Ilulissat and Qaqortoq to bolster infrastructure, trade, and tourism. The 2009 Self-Government Act permits Greenland to draft its own constitution and gradually assume more governance from Denmark. This development indicates a significant shift for the Arctic territory, with Egede stating, “Work has already begun with regard to creating the framework for Greenland as an independent state.” His remarks reflect a commitment to shaping Greenland’s future as a sovereign nation.

We should be supporting their Independence, not trying to turn them into a Colony. Have we truly forgotten our roots as a nation?

Greenland should play the long game
40 year plan like China & the USSR
Stay part of Denmark for as long as possible, milk the subsidies, don’t exploit resources for now
Once global warming melts the ice, theyll have milder climate and access to the rich resources
The whole world will come begging to them
