Amazon’s Ring has announced a partnership with Kidde to launch a connected smoke alarm product line at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The new Kidde Smart Smoke Alarm and Kidde Smart Smoke and CO Alarm will integrate Ring’s home security technology, enabling users to receive alerts via the Ring mobile app. Priced at $54.97 and $74.97 respectively, these products are set to ship in April 2023. Alongside the smoke alarms, Ring will introduce a $5-per-month subscription service offering continuous professional monitoring and emergency dispatcher access. Amazon acquired Ring in 2015 for $1 billion, and the company is well-known for its video doorbell products, which capture activity at users’ doorsteps. Ring has since expanded its lineup to include various security products, such as camera-equipped floodlights and drones. Importantly, customers can utilize the Kidde smoke alarm service without needing to subscribe to Ring’s Home program, which provides additional features like video recording storage. This collaboration marks a significant step in enhancing home safety by integrating fire safety technology with home security systems.
