The sample of Sting’s “Shape of My Heart” used in Juice WRLD’s “Lucid Dreams” was not cleared prior to its release, giving Sting increased leverage afterward, much to the frustration of producer Nick Mira. Sting praised “Lucid Dreams” as a “beautiful interpretation” of his original song, noting its success will benefit his grandchildren. The track has achieved diamond certification in the U.S., with over 11 million sales.

Clearing would’ve been far cheaper than the 85%. Due diligence is everything people.

It’s not Sting’s fault that you didn’t use the sample legally …

Sting music has been sampled by other artists. He only comes after the ones that go about the wrong way. Diddy was sued by Sting for a lot of money and 100% of the royalties for sampling his song in I’ll Be Missing You.

All you had to do was get it cleared or at least negotiate properly. Gotta be educated in this game.

If you handle your business properly on the front end then you don’t have to worry about this… there’s entirely too much info out there about producers not clearing samples & handling the administrative work on the front, then subsequently having to give up large percentages or risk having the song completely pulled… thong song comes to mind…

No offense and no hate, but he wouldn’t have owned 85%. If you would’ve just cleared it that’s on you.
