U.S. Set to Finalize $8 Billion Arms Deal with Israel, According to Axios

On October 22, 2024, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant met with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Tel Aviv. The Biden administration has informally notified Congress of an $8 billion arms sale to Israel, which includes munitions for fighter jets and helicopters. This deal requires approval from House and Senate committees and encompasses artillery shells, air-to-air missiles, small-diameter bombs, and warheads. A U.S. official emphasized Israel’s right to defend itself according to international law amid ongoing conflicts in Gaza. Diplomatic efforts to resolve the 15-month war have failed, with President Biden set to leave office on January 20.
